About the role:
Hawthorn Geddes is looking for a Intermediate or Senior Civil Engineer to join our team in Whangarei. We are looking for someone who’s passionate about design, problem-solving, and pushing boundaries. You’ll be part of a dynamic team at HG tackling everything from coastal management to commercial land development, commercial builds to bespoke residential projects.
Near or recently chartered with a desire to provide leadership and direction to projects across a range of disciplines

Key responsibilities:
- Project leadership in design and other engineering duties within the civil & environmental engineering group within Hawthorn Geddes.
- Coordination with the Directors on projects.
- Liaising and coordinating documentation with other sections of the office to ensure comprehensive information is provided for all projects. Liaise confidently with local councils, contractors and clients
- Work autonomously while contributing strongly to a high-performing team environment.
- Stay solutions-focused and bring practical, proactive ideas to every challenge.
- A great attitude towards delivering, with value, is essential.
What you’ll bring:
- A Bachelor’s degree with Honours in Civil Engineering or equivalent (Washington accord)
- Minimum 5 years of experience
- CPEng or close to achieving.
- Strong knowledge of New Zealand building and land development legislation, guidelines, and regulations.
- Confident decision making well founded in engineering knowledge and statutes.
- Technical Delivery (Experience in hydrology and natural hazards. Familiarity with the NES for contaminated land would be a benefit)
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively guiding a team and liaise with clients directly.
- Full, clean NZ driving license.
