Kamo Shared Path
The Kamo Shared Path is part of Whangarei's walking and cycling network providing safe and low emission travel options between neighbourhoods. This final stage connects Te Kamo village and was completed in 2024.This project presented some significant challenges, including faulting, unforeseen poor ground conditions, and a mine shaft directly beneath the bridge abutment. These obstacles provided an opportunity to deliver innovative solutions.
In line with our commitment to sustainability, an old bridge that was destined for scrap was repurposed, breathing new life into the structure. We also utilised locally manufactured Redi-Rock blocks for the middle pier and abutment over the mine shaft, ensuring both structural integrity and a reduced environmental footprint.
