Abbey Caves Carpark

This project is the first stage of a two-stage development to provide dedicated off-road parking, servicing both Abbey Caves and the Parihaka Reserve.  It provides spaces for cars with trailers to allow mountain bikers and horse-riders to utilise the facility, as well as campervans and buses.   A central WC and information block has also been provided, with water supply from its roof.  A safe pedestrian route to the start of the Caves walkway through a reduced speed zone was implemented.

Hawthorn Geddes provided Geotechnical assessment and Civil engineering design services, including car-park layout, and stormwater management incorporating attenuation design.
